This is the start of week 57 at the New England School of Photography. I have 3 weeks left to take it all in. I am going to miss so many things, but mostly I’ll miss the people. I’ll miss that great feeling I have as I open the door in the morning before class, look up 3 flights of stairs, and am energized and excited for the day. As the day goes on, I start to despise the stairs and the smell that gets trapped in there, a smell only a smoker could want. I trek through the thick air and hang out in the pigeon room. The Pigeon Room. Where all things gross convene into one room. Body odor, UBurger, weed, coffee, fixer…how does Fran deal with us every day?! Its a fun place to hang out, catch up with friends or take a nap. No one has ever told me how the room came to be called the Pigeon Room, if you ever find out please let me know.
But the people!! Tuesdays in the darkroom with the Silver Girls and our singing, laughing and frustrating grunts and groans. In her super cute thick cat-eye glasses is Liz who always has her act together and gets there before me while Aiofe and Alyssa- the responsible gals- have already printed on Monday. Cori is always in and out doing a million things at once because she’s amazing like that and sometimes has precious Violet in tow. Tricia is always there to step in as the nesop mom- she’s very good at listening and giving advice. In other classes I can always count on Fredo, Christine, Regina and Michelle to tell me the truth about an image. Give it to me straight! I want to know if I am showing a dud. Andy always made me worry he wouldn’t finish an assignment, but then BAM! he gets it done and its freaking awesome and we just end up jealous we didn’t do it. Laura is the best fake prude I know and has the most unique fashion sense. She’s “SO fine art”. Lyn has such a variety of talent and showed me the coolest stuff in lightroom, Nick D and Nick F have mysterious ways about them that I’ll never discover while Greg R and Greg P are polar opposites and equally lovely.
I have many more things to say about my peeps, but my eyes are dry and I kind of need them tomorrow as it is Tuesday and I am printing in the darkroom.
